With the latest update of the beta version of WhatsApp for Android, the new version 2.17.265, has come an important novelty. This is the Picture in Picture mode in video calls, so we can make video calls with WhatsApp and activate PIP mode, you can do anything else while we continue with video calls, like using other apps or continue to chat.
But Picture in Picture mode in WhatsApp video calls has not been activated for everyone, just for users with Android O, that is, Android 8.0. As you know this version has not yet been released, but there are previous versions that are available only on devices Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Google Pixel or Google Pixel XL, where you can already test the PIP mode in WhatsApp.
Internal changes in WhatsApp for Android 2.17.265
There have been a lot of changes internally, and the installation file for the new beta version of WhatsApp for Android has increased by almost 5 MB, because new libraries have been added, in total 12 new libraries, with which we assume that very soon new features like the new PIP mode can be enabled. In addition, the file “status_playback_text.xml” has also been added, which we hope will soon bring the expected Text Status.
Hopefully these new features to be added to WhatsApp will not only stay on systems like Android O (with the fragmentation that is on Android!) And also arrive at lower versions, which would not be totally impossible, since features like the new PIP mode work in other apps on versions of Android much lower than Android 8.0.
We remind you that to download this Beta version from Google Play before you have to convert into beta testers.
